“A Culinary Journey to Spain”
Embarking on a journey from the serene landscapes of Galicia, Spain, to the bustling streets of
the United Kingdom, Antonio Pego's story is one of passion, perseverance, and culinary
excellence. Born amidst the rich cultural tapestry of Galicia, Antonio's roots run deep in the
traditions of Spanish cuisine, shaping his culinary vision from an early age. In 1992, Antonio's
adventurous spirit led him across borders to the United Kingdom, where he sought to share his
love for authentic Spanish flavours with a new audience.
It was a leap of faith that would mark the beginning of an extraordinary chapter in his life. Fast
forward to 2004, and Antonio's dream took tangible form with the opening of Antonio’s
Restaurant. Nestled in the heart of the Fareham, Antonio’s quickly became a beacon for those
craving the warmth and authenticity of Spanish cuisine. From the first savoury bite to the last
indulgent sip, each dish served at Antonio’s tells a story of Antonio's heritage, crafted with
meticulous attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to quality.
Through his dedication and unwavering passion, Antonio Pego has not only carved a niche for
himself in the culinary landscape but has also woven a tapestry of flavours that transcends
borders and unites communities. His journey from Galicia to the UK serves as an inspiring
testament to the power of following one's dreams and the transformative magic of food in
bringing people together. Join me in celebrating the remarkable journey of Antonio Pego, a
visionary chef whose culinary creations continue to enchant and delight palates.

The story of tapas
- Origin: The term "tapas" comes from the Spanish verb "tapar," meaning "to cover."
- Medieval Beginnings: In the Middle Ages, taverns served small snacks alongside drinks, often covering glasses with bread or meat slices to keep out flies and dust.
- Evolution: Over time, these small snacks evolved into what we now know as tapas, enhancing the drinking experience and encouraging socialising.
- Diversity: Tapas come in a variety of forms, from simple plates of olives and cheese to elaborate dishes featuring seafood, meats, and vegetables.
- Regional Specialties: Each region of Spain has its own unique tapas specialties, influenced by local ingredients, traditions, and culinary techniques.
- Social Tradition: Tapas are enjoyed as part of the "tapeo" tradition, where people go from bar to bar, sampling different tapas and fostering a sense of camaraderie.
- Global Phenomenon: Tapas have become a global culinary phenomenon, with Spanish restaurants worldwide serving an array of tapas dishes.
- Celebration of Sharing and Conviviality: Tapas celebrate the spirit of sharing, conviviality, and culinary innovation, bringing people together to savour the flavours of Spain.
